"Integrate youth into the debate on equal rights for girls and boys to change attitudes through education and not through advocacy." This is the leitmotif of the "Aux cœurs des mots" French language digital writing competition, which is aimed at girls and boys all over the world who, together with their French teachers in their classrooms, are joining in this cause.
"Respect for human rights and gender equality are not unattainable ideals."
- Ban-Ki-Moon
Yet women and girls throughout the world still face discrimination and inequality of opportunity. According to an original idea launched by Hilde, the first competition "At the heart of words, in the words of the world's children" was launched in 2012, with children from 20 countries participating.
Indeed, the objective is to use a writing competition and the French-speaking world to give young people a voice.
Following the resounding success and the enthusiasm of these young people, the adventure continues and a second competition, "Women in the spotlight" was launched in 2016, this time with 30 countries participating and with the support and High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, Honorary President of the organization, as well as the support of the International Organisation of La Francophonie with H.E. Abdou Diouf and now also H.E. Mrs Michaëlle Jean.
These competitions were also able to count on the involvement of prestigious and international jury members from varied backgrounds, whose success is a great inspiration!
For the second competition, the organisers wanted to highlight women who, although they often work "in the shadows," have a significant impact and succeed in meeting challenges in a sometimes very complex context. Young people will highlight the rôle and work of women and thus recognise their central place in society. We are pleased to present the two competitions in the sections below.
